Trouble codes  used in the power train diagnostics


GENERIC
An example of  a trouble code    p0400
 

All power train codes  start with p = power
the next digit is a 0 this indicates it is generic and is used on all makes
the number 400 indicates an egr problem (egr=exhaust gas recirculation)
the two 00  in this tc are just gap fillers and will be used in further software development .
 
 

manufacture specific

An example of this type of code is  p1125
 

Again p for power
but this time  the 1 indicates manufacture specific and is only used on this make
and the last 3 digits 125 relate to air system in effect the 1 is the air system and 25 is a particular  section or part of the induction or inlet tract

OBD2 is the american equivalent of the european EOBD, but is far more advanced (and dont i know it)
